RIP take a good thrashing
Having provoked the ire of the DTR, they responded in the way they are famous for, overwhelming force. Entire fleets were sent on patrols covering a considerable area of the peripheries including once again, Dewiek space.
From all accounts, Dewiek space is Dewiek in name only. Are the DEN hibernating or have they become a fur glove worn by the Detinus Republic? The more cynical may view it as the Dewiek pulling strings and using the DTR as chore ladies, but then why should they hunt the RIP if they are not targeted?
Whatever your view, there is no doubting the capabilities of the DTR when they set their mind to a task, they are truly fearsome.
It would seem that even the SMS, simple miners have had to resort to protecting their shipping in alien nation's space. Again the RIP suffered from a swift and brutal strike. We are reminded that it was these prospectors that played one of the most significant parts in the war between the Empire and the Flagritz Nation. Humble miners, aye?

Clan Governor Stands Trial
The former governor of Abydos was taken off-world under CIA guard to a Clan courthouse in order to stand trial for brutality against the colonists under his governorship. The charges levied against him were those of mass starvation, gross incompetence leading to the subsequent death of over 25,000 colonists during an eighteen month period. The condemning evidence was presented by numerous off-worlders and holographic evidence. It is hardly surprising that he was found unanimously guilty, vindicating the recent CIA liberation of the colony.
Presuming these proceedings to be above suspicion and accepting that the Clan are capable of these atrocities against their own people such that it requires the intervention of an alien government, the Felini would do well to review their reunification policy.
GM's Opinion
Virtually all subspace static is written with a bias. It has always been so and will always be so. Many of the points expressed are done so with the aim of viewing the events through the eyes of the protagonists, those performing the action. The GM supports all activity that makes the game more interesting for a goodly number of players and tries to reflect this in the week's commentary. This can mean that they are sometimes speculative or at others, wildly inaccurate (especially if they concern the more questionable affiliations) but should be entertaining.

RIP Back in Action
It would appear that the RIP have discovered a new trick. Using ships with individual positions on their enemy list has meant that they can pluck a single undefended ship from a cluster rather than watching the pack scatter as they open fire on all. This proved enough to whip a DTR Intruder clean away. The Republic are likely to be frothing at the mouth.
*********Ground Battles*********
CIA Liberate Persecuted Clan Colonists
The story is that having been tipped off about a Clan colony suffering from mass famine and illness along with a lack of housing and poor morale, the CIA felt obligated to intercede on the colonists behalf. A token impoverished defence force swiftly threw down their weapons and virtually embraced the troops as they marched through open gates. Cheers and banners greeted the CIA force while the governor fled with his few loyal bully-boys. Then again they would say that wouldn't they!
DNA Throw Bricks
The Naplians have put away their spears and slings and brought in some bombers to smash the RIP forces previously engaged. Once again though the RIP ran for cover. Strafing techniques or long range bombardments may also have to be employed in order to get these little cowards.

Treacherous Imperial Assault
Having captured the Krell homeworld and knowing the futility of an extended occupation within hostile territory the Brotherhood wisely entered into peace talks with the Imperial Services. The culmination of such talks led to the peaceful handing of the control of the principle colony on Inversion over to the Imperial Services as per the mandate. The Imperial Services, not content with playing by the book, after gaining control of the colony opened fire on the remaining Brotherhood evacuation squad within the starport, butchering all the troops and capturing the ground party's possessions.

Rogue Nation Brought Low
The Brotherhood, smarting over the insults and aggressive overtures of the Krell nation decided that a lesson taught with fire and brimstone was in order. A brutal and swift attack on the Krell home world was launched. The Krell home world, only recently rebuilt after the Imperial invasion was devastated in the opening barrage. Shortly after shock troops moved in and secured the capital. As to what happens now, only time will tell although it is clear that not only the Krell noses have been knocked out of joint.

*********Ground Battle*********
The DNA ground force saw action this week in a bid to clear a RIP ground party from their front doors. What would have been a decisive massacre for RIP by the DNA was marred only by the swift retreat of the RIP after long range fire pummelled them. It is almost certain that the DNA are not going to let this matter drop.

Good ol' Postie Yep, with the Christmas strikes over and some warm weather settling in, it's time for another round of strikes. It may be a lousy job, but it's better than walking the streets... erm, sorry. Anyway, all this fun and games does mean that there will be some interference with the game although hopefully not much due to the scarcity of postal players.

A calm surface with churning undercurrents this week. Tension was mounting in the Cluster following the dubious liberation of a refugee colony. Threats of violence by the CLN against the DNA appear not to have materialized. Either the CLN's are pussy cats or the DNA have proved themselves to be excellent diplomats. If the latter is true, well done chaps, that's a poke in the eye for those that thought you were rubbish at everything. Inspired by this, there are rumours that colonies with low morales may well be issuing pleas for liberation. Tight-fisted governors beware.

An interest has been shown in running a paintball on one of the days of the next pub meet in early November. The promise of the 3D Alliance against the rest of the universe seems to be appealing. There is a paintball site here in Blackpool only a few minutes from the Sutton Park Hotel. There was also the suggestion of hosting the Quest meet at the same time for a larger event but also to provide a common enemy. Obviously there will also be the chance to blow the crap out of the KJC Staff.

A swift assault by a RIP Nebulon on a DEN Wolflord proved ineffectual. Multiple hits to the main section was insufficient to derelict the craft. By the same token however the Wolflord had no weaponry making it a bit of a toothless beast. Either the DTR are better at patrolling DEN space than the Dewiek or this was a failed death ritual for old ships and captains.
A major offensive by the GTT against the RIP ended in failure when the RIP, having been hit in the same location in the previous week fled.

Apologies for the delay in getting the technology schematics for Phoenix onto the website. There are a few fine points still to be hammered. We have however included the full versions of the battle printouts. These are in raw data format for round by round results. They basically give some impressions of the effects of beam weapons and various hull/shield configurations.

The RIP were playing their little game of cat and mouse. In this case though the mouse happened to be a GTT Behemoth. After being swatted a few times with ion cannons the Behemoth was able to get away. This is one of the few advantages of having a small command section.

The Brotherhood Broadcasting Command (BBC) televised across subspace scenes of the inauguration of Brother Axel, formerly vice command of the CIA and now Patriarch of the Brotherhood. This ceremony was conducted at Ceilidh-Veldt by none other than Pope Mark Eaton, the leader of the Inner Confederacy. Is this merely pomp and circumstance or are the implications further reaching. The cunning of the CIA combined with the righteous ruthlessness of the Brotherhood, a dangerous mix indeed.

RIP Season
Not to be outdone by the Confederacy or the Detinus Republic, the Imperial Services have jumped on the bandwagon. Favouring the tried and tested method of overwhelming odds, the Imperial fleet left the lone RIP ship as little more than glowing embers, quickly cooling in the frozen wastes of space. Nice shooting Tex.

Still showing themselves to be a force to be recognized and feared, a moderately sized Confederate force was despatched to deal with a lone RIP warship. A combined CNF/BHD fleet of over a dozen warships utterly annhilated the pirate vessel.
*********Ground Battle*********
The DTR, having taken stock of the situation, re-engaged the RIP secret space station, this time packing a large amount ground forces. The results were overwhelming. The pirates were rounded up and placed in security holdings and the
prisoners were liberated. After a tempory loss of co-ordination, the DTR appear to be back on track. All hail the Republic, the last bastion of morality in a truly wicked universe.

*********Jump Assault*********
The CNF have launched a major offensive against the Clans. Using vast military reserves they hurtled into two major Clan colonies and captured them with very little resistance. The Clan were completely demoralized by this overwhelming show of force. This was without a
doubt a spectacular act of precision and coordination. Have the Confederacy become the new DTR, their star certainly appears to be on the ascent?

Thanks for the largely positive response to the ship design program. More information will be appearing on the website next week. This will include more details on items and some basic rules. Special technology will be sent out to various affiliations over the coming weeks.

Having discovered and failed to capture a known RIP space station the DTR have been suffering from a dint in their pride. In the full glare of public interest they returned this week to finish the job with their usual impressive style.Unfortunately two DTR ships were destroyed in the opening gambit during which the station was softened up for the coming ground assault. A miscalculation however left the station more than capable of smashing the DTR task force. It would seem that the pirates hold the station for a second week. Are we seeing the human side of the DTR?
(Nice change to rib the DTR, keep it up lads-GM banter)

The DTR swoop in on a suspected RIP stronghold. Having discovered a number of pirate vessels working a region of space, DTR scouts flooded the area loaded with sensors. Having discovered a secret space station with a RIP ship in orbit, the fleet was sent in. Having defeated all naval reserves, the jump troops swarmed the station only to be thoroughly beaten back by the stations defences. The only question is, how will the DTR respond to this arse kicking by a bunch of worthless cutthroats? This has suddenly become a matter of pride.

Lastest Phoenix Update
Ship designs for Phoenix were a major topic for discussion at the last pub meet. With the introduction of permenantly installed items and fixed ship design it was agreed that there should be multiple designs for what is currently one ship design. i.e. a Battleship should have multiple designs for roles as a space fighter carrier, a colony pounder and a ship interceptor.
Originally we were going to produce all these designs and agree them with players. We have decided to do the opposite. A program along with explanetory notes will shortly be on our website. This will allow players to design their own ship replacements. While the program is for use by anyone (as when Phoenix is launched all Starbase owners will be able to build their own ships), for the conversion, only affiliation ratified ship designs will be stored. Have fun.

This week proved utterly disastrous for the RIP. Despite half a dozen engagements, they failed to capture a single ship. Many attacks involved barrages of ion cannon fire into the victims, all proving to give negligible results. During one skirmish four RIP warships assaulted a lone DOM Ship of the Line. The sudden demise of one of the RIP ships during the opening volley was a clear portent of fate of the battle.

A carefully laid entrapment planned and executed by the Detinus Republic ensured that there was no escape for the RIP Predator class Sirion. Barrages of ion cannons swiftly derelicted the vessel. Now is it just go on board and sweep the resulting dust of the command deck. There goes the GM's hopes of ribbing the DTR.

The IMP released their fury at being bullied by the RIP by turning up en masse and giving a lone little pirate war galley the thrashing of its life. Nothing escaped, not even dust. (GM attempting to resist picking on the IMP further this week, it's about time he had a go at the DTR or the FGZ)

Phoenix Update
Work is furiously being done on Phoenix. The name appears to be here to stay as despite early ridicule nobody has come up with anything better, nosireebob. Come the April pubmeet we will have ship designs, battles, manifests, full basic turns and much more to present. We should even have a number of rule books (no snirking, please). Then begins the long haul of quantifying current BSE for the conversion.

An IMP Patrol Cruiser, hot of the shipyard became the most recent acquisition of the RIP as it was waylaid in the middle of nowhere. If the IMP are now building ships for the RIP, maybe they should save the hassle of combat and allow the RIP to fly them straight from the starport. (ooh you nasty spiteful GM)
*********Subspace Static Week 5 Year 201 - 1st February 2001*********

The RIP appear to have given the Imperial block the runaround this week. Imperial vessels patrolled everywhere and only discovered the RIP as they were leaving. Unfortunately for the IMP War Galley Voyeur, the RIP were also on patrol and blew it to pieces.
There was close call in the Solo system as tension between the Dominion and the Flagritz hots up. Pressure is on the AFT to maintain the neutrality of this system. With the influx of AFT warships, this coming week could well prove critical to the upkeep of peace within the system. Have the Dominion got the audacity to flout AFT law?
*********Subspace Static Week 4 Year 201 - 25th January 2001*********

The RIP gave the GTT and FET the slip this week, neatly avoiding a task force that was sent to destroy them.
A minor skirmish with the DTR ended in frustration as the RIP Deep Explorer ran for cover at the first sign of danger and escaped with only minor damage.

Eurocheque Charges
We recently been informed by our bank that they now charge 20.00 pounds to process Eurocheques due to the ending of the scheme. This is obviously not worth the cost so unless you are sending a large amount of money and don't mind paying this fee, it would be better to avoid using this method of payment in future.

RIP Rampage
A series of blistering raids across the peripheries has led to a number of vessels being captured. A lone pirate warship attacked a flotilla of FET vessels as they wandered unprotected in and out of orbit. While half a dozen scattered, one was singled out, derelicted and boarded. Even the DTR fell prey as a lone warship was bested in single combat. Heads will roll for this unusual turn of events.
*********Ground Battles*********
The Flagritz have removed a DEN nuisance from one of their world. The attack was more a case of a slaughter than a battle. As to whether the DEN will retaliate, only time will tell.
*********Subspace Static Week 2 Year 201 - 11th January 2001*********
*********Space Battles*********
A poor week for the AFT. Having been caught in orbit over a desolate world they were easy prey for the RIP. Two AFT warships were destroyed in the assault and a third was captured by the RIP. The initial presence of the lone RIP Lugger may well have been bait. If so, then the bait was swallowed along with the hook, line and sinker. Score to the pirates. It has been assured that the fact that the system is owned by the FET and the AFT are their biggest rivals has no bearing on the events. The attack was purely coincidental.
