Republican Party |
The Republican Party is a relatively young political party originally founded by Marco Ramsey, who has resigned all party
positions before becoming the current Magistrate of the Republic. Its current Secretary is
Lorenzo De Medici, a promising political newcomer and Lt. Governor to
Tharbad. Due to his young age he has not achieved Lordship yet, although this is only a matter of time considering his
popularity in Tharbad.
Political Aims
The political aims of the Republican Party can be quickly summarized with intention to guide the Periphery into a new golden
age of democratic prosperity under the leadership of the Detinus Republic. Its members believe strongly in freedom and
democracy and are always ready to put up a fight with anyone who questions this. Due to this inherent moralism the party is
also convinced of the 'superiority' of the methods of the Detinus Republic over most other human governments. While
they do not hate the Empire a priori, their strong dislike for it is fed with the knowledge of its opprerssive methods.
The party has a very liberal view of economic questions, such as trade or taxation. As for foreign policy, the intention is for
leadership by example, best accomplished by vast cooperation with many foreign powers. On a military level, the party wants
a strong Republican Navy to protect the colonies from outside threats and to counter any potential hostiles. It is also supposed
that it would even support preemptive military actions against the Imperials.
Representation
The Republican party holds roughly 20% of the seats in the Senate of the Republic. There is no party member in the
current government, but party neverless supports its actions. Although by position all-party, the Magistrate of the Republic, Lord
Marco Ramsey, is close to the ideals of this party. The political stronghold of this party is Tharbad.
