Profile of the Detinus Republic

Origins

In the year 131, the Imperial colony Detinus rebelled against the inhumane treatment enforced upon them by the Empire, followed by others including the colony Tate. Tate was eventually stormed by Imperial troops and almost all colonists tortured then executed in an act of incredible savagery. However, the Empire had achieved its goal: all other rebellious colonies except Detinus ceased their act of defiance almost immediately.

The Imperial Navy then moved to Detinus and bombarded the colony from orbit for weeks; upon landing the Imperial troops found that Detinus had been deserted weeks before the arrival of the fleet. The Detinus people had fled into uncharted space.

Character

The Detinus people are peaceful and democratic and thus were bombed out of the Empire for good. Now they are fugitives, refugees in a hostile environment. The young Republic has learned to defend itself - DTR technology is cutting edge and DTR spaceships are top-of-the-line (does this remind you of something, Simms? :) ). However, while the DTR is superior on a one-to-one basis, it has not been very aggressive since it is was vastly outnumbered.

Current Situation

After it was nearly destroyed in the Flagritz war after being backstabbed by the FET and then used as a scapegoat for the whole war, the Detinus Republic found refuge with the Confederacy (CNF). Although they did not share the Republic's political views, they shared their prime enemy: The Imperials (IMP)

The DTR, for some years, was based in the Darkfold Periphery. However, in mid-197, members of the Detinus Explorers corps, with the aid of an alien artefact, discovered two new systems and named them Venice and T.Tauri. The Detinus Republic was able to move most of its assets to these new systems including its crown colony, New Tate, which is based in the Venice system.

Goals and Motivations

Ultimately, the Detinus Republic would love to dispose of the Emperor and to restore peace and democracy throughout the galaxy.

On the short term, however, the Detinus people are struggling to make a new home somewhere in the peripheries, since at the moment they are only guests of the Confederation without any home system.

Friends

The Confederacy (CNF, CIA and BHD) granted refuge to the DTR in times of need and despite of their radically different political views their common enemy, the Imperial Forces (IMP), made them co-operate surprisingly well. Whilst the discovery of Venice and T.Tauri has meant that reliance with the Confederacy has waned somewhat, we still consider them to be allies.

The Dominion (DOM) and Dewiek Elder Nation (DEN) are new allies, and together we formed the Alliance at the end of 197. This has been the only major political alliance in nearly a century and has already proved its worth in battles with the Hexamon.

The strictly neutral attitude of the AFT has ensured that there has been much co-operation between affiliations. This assistance is steadily increasing with the AFT supplying Carriers to the DTR and likewise the DTR supplying Nebulons in return as well as numerous trade deals.

Enemies

Prime enemy of the DTR is the IMP and, since the Flagritz war, especially that Imperially chartered enterprise, Frontier Exploration & Trade (FET) as well as the Flagritz (FGZ) themselves. The emergence of the Hexamon (HXM) into the Noctollis periphery lead to a recent conflict and are rapidly becoming the prime enemy of the DTR.

Strengths

Due to a very high technological level, DTR ships enjoy a 20% space combat bonus (i.e. weapons do 20% more damage). The DTR also has some real hot hardware, like cybernetic minds instead of the inferior battle computers most other affiliations use, and was the first human affiliation to research and build the Photon Gun which is the standard space weapon now. And the pride of the Detinus Republic Stellar Armada, the Nebulon class attack cruiser, is undoubtedly the most versatile and dangerous warship there is (although not the biggest).

In addition, DTR research is more effective than that of other affiliations and there is a massive production base available through many large colonies.

Weaknesses

There are only two handicaps the DTR has to cope with. Being a small affiliation, the DTR escaped extinction only by the slimmest of margins during the Flagritz war. The DTR Stellar Armada, which was very small, has grown considerably over the years. In the spring of 198 we helped our new allies, the Dominion and Dewiek Elder Nation, against the Hexamon in the largest naval battle in over 500 years. This brought much confidence to the Stellar Armada and the quietness of previous years is unlikely to last for much longer...
