Speaker of the House of Lords |
Biography: |
|
Abraham Crowthorne was the second son of the draftsman Eliger and Philippa
Crowthorne. He was born in August 130, 30 months after the birth of his
elder brother, Winston. Although very young, he clearly remembers the
suffering of the Detinus people and the hasty departure for the colony just
before the Imperial Navy arrived in 142. Like all of the refugees, he
hated the Imperial Dictatorship for what they had done to colonists
throughout known space. He followed his brother into the Detinus Navy and
became a skilled captain of the Destroyer Invincible. He was inseparable from his brother, so their ships were often paired together to scout for colonisable worlds or to check for any signs of chasing Imperial vessels. In 155, their two Destroyers were ambushed by a fleet of 8 Imperial ships. Although heavily outnumbered, the fighting skills of the crew and the tactical awareness of the Crowthorne brothers enabled them to beat the Imperials, destroying 3 Imperial ships and making derelict a further two. However, a terrible cost was paid, as the thrust engines of the Illustrious overloaded and blew up the ship, with the loss of all hands. Although the Invincible was badly damaged, Abraham demanded revenge and wanted to chase the fleeing Imperial ships, but was forcibly prevented from doing so. Instead, Invincible slowly returned to the fleet to tell everyone of the sad news. Abraham progressed through the navy to the exulted rank of Rear-Admiral, before retiring from the navy and taking up a post of security officer at the colony Detinus in 188. In 193 he was promoted to Information Officer, overseeing the exploration of planets and the size of the Imperial Navy. He constantly warned the Speaker of the lack of defended colonies, but was always over-ruled. War with the Imperials and their lackey affiliations in 193 proved what he had said all along. After the defeat, which saw many officers commit suicide for the failures of past policies, he was elected as Speaker of the House. He has since built up a strong base of colonies and a large war fleet, with the intention of bringing the Imperial Dictatorship to its knees once and for all. |
Captain Mara Jade |
Biography: |
|
Mara Jade was brought up an orphan after her parents were secretly executed
after protesting to the ruling bodies about the appalling living conditions
on the Imperial colony Jax when she was 11. Four years later she was able
to stow away on a trading vessel and managed to reach Rubis in the
beginning of 195, after a journey of 9 months. She was thin and half
starved after this journey, often having to rummage through the cargo to
find food to survive. Here, whilst waiting outside a bar on Rubis, was
found by a Starcaptain of the DTR who took her back to New Tate. After gaining her strength back, she joined the Navy at which she excelled especially in the survival courses. She was one of the fastest graduates and was given the command of a battered Survey Cruiser. After much cajoling , bartering and causing as much hassle as possible (since a Survey Cruiser was not the fighting ship she wanted) she was granted an upgrade to a Predator, one of the warships of the time. Since then, she has been rapidly promoted through the ranks and has been involved in numerous battles ending up being granted 'ace' status in the beginning of 197. Known as a foxy lady throughout the Republic, she has resisted pressure for her ship to be upgraded to a Nebulon stating that the ships elegance and speed suit her more than the grace and power of a Nebulon. She also has stated proudly that her ship has never once sustained any damage in battle. |

Biography: |
|
Jack was born in 163 on the Inner Empire colony world of Procyon IV.
Six years before the infamous Jaskivi City riots. The Imperium,
fearing a second Procyon rebelion, placed the world under martial
law. It was in this repressive atmosphere that Jack has spent most of his life. Joining the underground whilst a teenager, he operated for a number of years as a booklegger. Mainly supplying the banned volume "The History of Modern Government". Upon hearing that the police were closing in on him, Jack fled for the Peripheries. Here the EEM lent him the money, for training and the purchase of a surveyor. Jack joined the DTR shortly after ariving in the Peripheries. The DTR represents the type of government, Jack believes, all sentient beings should live under. |
Vice Admiral J. S. Arker |
Biography: |
|
Currently the most experienced officer actively serving in the DTR fleet,
John Arker has done a multitude of services for the Detinus Republic. He
was born 42 years ago on one of the ships carrying the Detinus survivors to
the outer Empire. When the war in 193 broke out, he was a lowly lieutenant
carrying out explorations in the farther reaches of the Capellan periphery
as part of the DTR Armed Survey Squadron. Unfortunately Dawn Treader had
some problems with its communication equipment after being fired at by some
alien beast. Thus for some weeks he was unaware of the chaos happening closer to home. When communications were restored, he quickly returned to Capella to have his Survey Cruiser upgraded tothe then powerful Battle Cruiser. During the return trip, he spotted an unusual phenomena in the space time continuum and reported this to the DTR higher command. However, by the time he was upgraded, the war against the Imperials was effectively over. With the remnants of the DTR fleet, he picked up as much equipment as Dawn Treader could carry and travelled to the wormhole and passed through into the Darkfold Periphery. Here he vigorously supported the election of Lord Crowthorne as Speaker and helped to rebuild the battered Republic. He first surveyed Pang, the new home of the DTR then went further afield into the upper reaches of the Darkfold periphery gathering basic planetary and mineral data. However, the desperate requirement for ships for transporting goods to new colonies then took precedence. Although not exactly sure of the number of supply trips he has done, he believes it is well over 200 return trips, making him a double Master Trader. During this time, New Tate reached class 7 and he was given the honour of the first Frigate upgrade in 35.194. The maiden voyage went without any problems and he quickly recommended upgrading as many other ships to Frigate class. New Tate then reached class 8 in 44.196 and the following week he was in a race with a number of other DTR ships to be upgraded to Nebulon, which he won by only a matter of hours. Since then Dawn Treader has undergone trials and mock battles, finally cumulating in the successful battle against the RIP in 13.197 where she and her sister Nebulons showed the power of their class. |

Lieutenant Commander Isolder |
Biography: |
|
Kahn Isolder never used to be a superstitious person, but that is changing.
In the first quarter of year 194, a ship called Hare was exploring a
planet in the Beach system. Part of the crust was rather unusual, so the
Starcaptain set the automatic landing sequence going. However, about 20
metres from 'landing' the crew realised that the surface was in fact a
molten sea. The sequence was immediately cancelled but a massive wave
swept over the ship, pushing Hare further towards the sea. Realising that
all would be lost if they hit the sea, the thrust engines are taken to 110%
power. However, the wave of molten rock had damaged the thrust engines,
and they overload and detonate blowing the engine section lose. Hare
spirals downwards and crashes into the molten rock with the loss of all
hands. A new graduate from training school hears about this story, and decides to call his new fast freighter after the Hare in memorial. Hare Again is born. Ensign Ackbar rises steadily through the ranks to become Captain whilst carrying out his exploration duties throughout the whole of the Darkfold periphery. During this time, he was able to upgrade his ship to the best exploration vessel available, the Infiltrator. Upon discovery of the Arachnid system, Captain Ackbar is sent to explore this new system. Hare Again lands on one of the many uncharted planets in Arachnid to investigate the life signs indicated by a probe of the world. However, on contacting a new alien life, Captain Ackbar and two crew members are killed. Second in command, the newly promoted Lieutenant Isolder grabs at the chance he didn't think would come his way as Starcaptain of Hare Again. Thinking that the death of his captain was a mistake, he tried again to make contact with these alien life forms, and after many weeks finally succeeded in obtaining a harmonious relationship. However, Kahn has vowed never to be complacent again. Many of the ships crew are beginning to wonder if the ships named Hare are jinxed, but no-one want to leave the ship due to the exciting times they have. For the befriendment of the aliens, Captain Ackbar and Lieutenant Commander Isobar were jointly presented with the first contact badge in early 197. |

Lieutenant John D. Frabartolo |
Biography: |
|
In late 173, a Brotherhood starship came upon the wreckage of another ship
that had been destroyed very recently. A bording party was sent aboard but
could find nothing but a baby that had survived the catastrophe in a storage
container for food and live animals. No other living being was found aboard,
and no indication as to what had happened here except that the wrecked ship
had had its command section blasted away by weapons fire. The ship's navigator, a Brotherhood monk named Frabartolo, took the baby with him but did not leave it with the Brotherhood; instead, he contacted the Detinus Republic, claiming the destroyed starship had been a DTR ship. The DTR officials were rather surprised at that since no ship was recorded lost. They had the matter checked but ultimately, found no proof of the old monk's tale. They agreed, however, to care for the baby and had Frabartolo fill out an immigration form. The baby was then taken to a Republican orphan's home on New Tate. As neither a name nor a birth date could be determined, the birth date was guessed at about three months before the finding of the wreckage. The monk, not very creative, had the child named John Doe Frabartolo, and the DTR officials thus recorded the immigration of John D. Frabartolo, age 3 Months, into the Detinus Republic on October 27th, 173. It remains unknown what ship he was actually rescued from; also, the exact date as well as the name of the Brotherhood ship involved or the system where the wreck was found were never revealed. John D. Frabartolo chose to join the DTR Stellar Academy at the age of 18, from which he graduated in 194. He then travelled the Darkfold periphery as a crewmember on various DTR starships. In 196, he had saved enough money to buy (with a generous 30,000 Stellar credit from the EEM) an old Surveyor-class starship and joined the DTR Explorer Corps as an independent starcaptain. |

Ensign Olaf Knutter |
Biography: |
|
Born the second child of a hydroponics engineer on New Tate in 175, Olaf
Knutter is a good commander in so far as that he has nothing special about
him. He graduated from the DTR Stellar Academy in 196, then applied for the
DTR Stellar Armada and was immediately accepted. His psychological profile
accurately describes him as calm and hard working, and after only a few months
of officer training at New Tate and Thorn he was already given command of a
Merchant Navy Supra Freighter to prove himself and gain further experience as
a Starcaptain. Olaf Knutter harbours a deep hatred of the Empire (as do almost all Detinus Republic citizens). He is driven by the wish to command a DTR battleship and is working hard and very determined to achieve this goal. |

Ensign Marushka Smirnoff |
Biography: |
|
Marushka Smirnoff is a name well remembered at the DTR Stellar Academy, New
Tate, where she graduated second-last of her class in 196. Regarded by most
as a "medium-to-major nuisance", she had collected countless reprimands in her
three years at the academy, mostly for her quick and aggressive temper. At one
instance, she started a fistfight with an instructor when criticised for
"undue aggressiveness" in an exercise scenario that was supposed to teach
cadets the techniques of an orderly retreat - Smirnoff lost her whole task
force but inflicted an incredible kill-to-loss ratio of 2.7 to 1 on the
attacking force, claiming that would "hurt the enemy more than a cowardly
retreat". Ever since, she has been nicknamed "Bloody Mary" by her fellow
comrades. Another incident would almost have seen her expelled from the academy. That was when she was found accessing secret datafiles about the design of the CNF/DTR Frigate by breaking into the academy at night and using a restricted terminal with the appropriate clearances and a stolen password. From the data obtained about the ship's structure, she devised a revolutionary defensive maneuver that caused grey hairs among the technicians responsible for safety and excitement among the flight officers. That maneuver has been forbidden meanwhile because of critical stress to the main structure but her ideas proved very useful in construction of the manouvering thrusters defence system of the new DTR Nebulon-class warship. While her psychological profile has few good words for her, she has repeatedly proven to be a capable tactician and she has been allowed to graduate, after all. To cool down her temper she was assigned to command a Supra Freighter with the Merchant Navy (her reaction to that assignment was rather ungrateful) but it is likely that she will receive command of a warship eventually due to her undeniable skill in space combat. Shortly after receiving command of the freighter, the ship came under attack from the RIP when a DTR convoy was waylaid in the Francoise system. In that battle, Ensign SmirnoffÄs skills at evasive maneuvering saved the ship although under fire from a pirate Frigate. Simulator runs of the battle later showed that the freighter had less than 30 percent chance to survive at all. |
