DTR Medals & Decorations

Classification: Open

Awards for Single Actions:

Detinus Medal of Honour:

The Detinus Medal of Honour is the highest award that the Republic can bestow. It is given in the name of the Senate by the Speaker, and is given to officers for an individual act of bravery in combat above and beyond the call of duty. Only an individual who conspiciously distinguishes himself in action against an armed enemy at the risk of his own life without harm to his mission can be eligible to win the Detinus Medal of Honour, and it is only awarded after thorough investigation. The tradition of the Republic also dictates that holders of the Detinus Medal of Honour be awarded the Order of Tate. This is the only case where the Order of Tate is not granted posthumously.

The medal itself is a large platinum disk with a single gold star upon it. It hangs from a platinum bar with the word LIBERTAS on it. Although it may be pinned to the breast, the medal is usually worn around the neck with a longer blue band on official occasions.

Medal of the New Dawn in Diamond, Gold, Silver and Bronze:

The Medal of the New Dawn is an honour given to soldiers and civilians alike for exceptional duty, devotion, and sacrifice in the name of the Detinus Republic. It is usually given to someone whose actions have been crucial in stemming an enemy attack, but the heroic act need not be military. There have been recipients who have won the medal for a particularly brave political or even economic action that proved to have republic-wide importance. This medal is also awarded taking in consideration the previous actions of the recipient. A good service record has often increased the grade of the awarded medal.

The medal is a large black obsidian disk with - in increasing order of importance - a bronze, silver, gold, or diamond nascent sun before a dark blue background on it, hanging from a blue ribbon. Each medal has a correspondent ribbon for use with the breastplate of the dress uniform, but because of the great honor associated with the New Dawn in Diamond or Gold, recipients usually wear it on the right side of their uniforms.

Supply Coronas:

Supplying the forces of the Republic is an essential and sometimes undersetimated work. To this effort the Republic awards a supply corona for good service for every two supply runs (counted as round-trips) performed by each position.

Supply coronas are usually painted on the insignia of the position as small yellow blazing suns. Any officer with ten or more supply coronas may wear a red-and-gold ribbon with a corona in the middle on his dress uniform, and may be called "Supplier". An officer with at least fifty supply coronas wears a blue-and-gold ribbon with a corona in the middle and is entitled to be called "Master Supplier".

Awards for Continuous Service:

Order of Tate:

Any great leader who falls in battle joins the ranks of the Order of Tate. His name is etched on the marble wall remembering the Tate massacre in the Houses of the Senate. In addition, the deceased's direct superior awards a black-and-blue Detinus banner to the deceased's next of kin.

The Order of Tate was established by Senate immediately after the Tate massacre of the year 137. The marble wall in the Houses of the Senate on New Tate is said to be the last remaining piece from the original Senate of Detinus and contains the names of all the massacre victims. The Chamber of Tate, as the spacious hall containing the wall has come to be known, is the Republic's most sacred sanctuary and only reserved for important cerimonies. For example, this is where the Speaker bestows the Detinus Medal of Honour upon the Republic's heroes.

Knights of the Republic:

The Senate may nominate one citizen for every ten colonies (or fraction thereof) to Knight of the Republic. This is the ultimate career achievement for any citizen. Membership includes a nomination to Senator for life as well as a generous parcel of land. They will usually recieve the Order of Tate after their death. Knights bear the official title of "Defender of the Republic" and are the Republic's most respected citizens. As material symbol of their status they are awarded with a richly decorated baton, although the title itself makes the bearer important enough to seldom go unnoticed in any part of the Republic.

Distinguished Service Award in Silver, Gold and Platinum:

The Distinguished Service Award is given in the name of the Senate for continued meritous service to the Republic in a duty of responsibility both for military and civilian careers. It is usually granted to long-standing officers of the Republic who need not so much have distinguished themselves with single acts of merit, but with a long time of good service instead. The grade is mainly based on the length of service and usually starts with Silver.

The award actually replaces the standard metallic breastplate worn on the left side of the dress uniforms with a more decorated version made of - in increasing importance - silver, gold or platinum. On the normal field uniforms the award is worn as a simple silver, gold or platinum badge with the word LIBERTAS on it.
